Irvine Premier G92 are finalists in the Albion Cup National College Showcase Tournament – San Diego

The IPSC G92 team reached the finals of the Albion National College Showcase (San Diego, CA) in impressive fashion scoring 8 goals in pool play while giving up nil. In the semi finals the girls played until 10:30PM in the evening battling Tustin United 1-1 for 90 minutes and then going on to a 7-6 pk victory. Tired, and with several injured starters, the girls went into the finals against a strong San Diego United team, eventually falling 2-3. The Irvine Premier girls are ranked 37th in Cal South and will compete locally on August 7th and 8th.

The Irvine Premier G92s (born after 7/31/92) are looking for 2-3 field players to round out their roster, for information contact Coach Gordon Scott via email or 949-632-5649.

G96 Blue Gets 2nd Place in Irvine Summer Classic

IPSC girls 96 team finished 2nd in the Irvine Summer Classic on June 19th and 20th. The team started strong with wins in its first two games. In the first game of the tournament we scored a goal with five minutes to go to seal the victory. In the afternoon game, we went down 1-0 and scored two goals late in the game to come back and win. In the morning game, we went ahead 1-0 early in the game only to run out of steam as the game went on. We ended up losing the game 3-1, but the goal we scored was enough to give us enough points to advance to the finals. In the final game, the team put up a determined performance but it wasn’t enough against a strong Beach FC team. The final ended 0-2. IPSC finshed the tournament strong with 2nd place medals.

Irvine Premier B01 Blue – Wins Spring Cup

The Irvine Premier B01 Blue team got its 2010 soccer campaign off to an encouraging start in the CSL Spring Soccer League. The team ended its regular season at the sharp end of its flight with a dominant six-win, two-loss record.

We have begun developing into a cohesive unit, controlling possession and distributing the ball well. The boys are learning different positions through strategic rotation, and are using learned technical skills with greater effect, finding the net more while sparing fewer goals.

Spring Cup became another great milestone for the team. Winning our flight, we advanced to the semi-final round with quiet confidence and ominous determination. We proved prolific goal scorers with generous contributions from Ashwin, Jake, Grant, Kabir, Wyatt, Zeke and Ian, and at midfield we did a terrific job advancing the ball up the field. Our solid defense, anchored by Carter, Zeke, Stefan, Brendon and Zack provided a formidable challenge to any offense, even managing to score a goal or two of their own! Zeke and Zack made classic saves, trading off in goal, while throwing their bodies at every shot ! Both Zeke and Zack did great, championing the team from the rear.

The team convincingly won its Semi-Final against Cerritos United SC 7-0, and then carried its momentum on to the Spring Cup Final with a comfortable 4-2 win over Fram CQ. Our early success gives the boys confidence going forward, and a solid foundation upon which to attack the CSL Fall Season.

Irvine Premier B95 had another great weekend of soccer as they eased through to the semi finals of Spring Cup maintain their 100% record. Umar Abbas and Drew Sloane continued their great form for the team grabbing a goal each, Ozzy Nazarzai also scored his first goal for the club. The team will travel up to San Bernardino next weekend aiming to bring home the trophy!

G95 White Celebrate at State Cup

The Irvine G95 White Team, coached by Russ Martin has a lot of reasons to celebrate. Most recently they competed against 32 other teams in the Cal South State Cup Tournament. They advanced as one of the final four teams with the possibility to play in the final round for the State Cup.

In the first five matches they scored 14 points and allowed 0 goals. On Sunday afternoon, after winning a close match in the morning 1-0, they took the pitch for their 6^th match of the tournament where they faced Santa Clarita United (SCU). Irvine saw their scoreless streak come to an end when SCU scored on a broken coverage corner kick late in the first half. In the second half Irvine came out swinging. They were mostly on the attack. They worked the ball down the field several times and took over 10 shots on goal. A few of their shots just missed tying the score. As the end of the match was approaching, Irvine played with a since of urgency. In their haste to keep their State cup hopes alive they left an SCU shooter open on a corner kick and she capitalized on the mistake by putting the ball in the back of the net which gave SCU a comfortable two goal lead. Irvine worked until the referee blew his whistle signifying the end of the match and the end of the road to the State Cup for Irvine

“The first thing I want you to know is, I am very proud of all you,” Coach Russ Martin said while talking to his tired, red-faced team after the final match. “You had a very good tournament. You did not allow a goal in the first 5 games. Not to many teams can make that claim. Some of you are hurt and you gave it everything you had and left it all on the field. That is all a coach can ask of his team.”

He continued: “You played a very good team, and they were better today. I don’t think they are a better team, but they were just better today.”

Martin concluded his post game comments by reminding the players that they are a very good Silver level team. He rewarded their efforts by giving them the day off on Tuesday, which is time that most of them need to heal their injuries.

A strong finish in State Cup is not the only reason that G95 Irvine is celebrating. During their run for the State Cup they are also in the thick of the competitive Coast Soccer Spring Soccer League. They are currently inthird place. During the Spring League, they have competed against and defeated some very strong silver teams. This is a very positive sign since they will be playing at the sliver level next Fall. They have one more match in the spring season, and then they will compete for the Spring Cup where they will be tested again.

The team also will start its summer tournament series soon. They should be feeling pretty good. According to Got Soccer http://www.gotsport.com/rankings/team.aspx?teamid=247249 which is a web site that rates teams tournament results, has Irvine G95 White rated 60th in Southern California. The teams first place finish in the Irvine Spring tournament help contribute to their ranking.
